The Light

     In my studies on the Treasure from the Parables, I was reading in Matthew about the 10 virgins who went out to meet the bridegroom.  Five of the virgins were wise and took additional oil to keep their lamps burning; the other five did not take the extra oil, and their oil ran out.  By the time they returned with the oil needed to light their way, the door was shut and they could not enter into the wedding banquet.  They missed out.  They had not prepared.
    In essence, what Jesus was saying was that if you do not believe in Jesus, you will not have an understanding of God, not be prepared, and you will miss out on eternal life.  The door will be closed.
     Jesus said in John 8:12,  "...I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

              The Light!

You, Oh Lord, are the light of the world.
  with power to command the earth to unfurl;
At your will, darkness turns to light,
  the sun and stars shine bright.

Your light, Oh Lord, is the lamp unto my path;
  giving wisdom to fear your wrath.
Your light! A  lamp unto my feet;
  your love, so sweet!
A light, giving understanding;
  wisdom expanding.

You, Oh Lord, are the light of the Cross,
  shedding brightness, overcoming loss.
A light saving souls;
  making people whole-
A light of understanding, a light proclaiming God's glory
Your mighty light! The life-changing story!
