In Matthew 16, Jesus asked, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” Then He asked Simon Peter directly, “Who do you say I am?”
Simon answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Earlier in Matthew 3, God had already told who Jesus was. When Jesus was baptized, God’s voice came from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love.”
In John 10, Jesus, Himself told us who when He said, “I am the gate for the sheep. Whoever enters through me will be saved.”
Jesus declared, “I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” He went on to say, “I know my sheep and my sheep know me.”
Again Jesus identified who He was when he said, “I and the Father are One.”
Should Jesus ask me directly who He was, I would answer.
“Lord, You my Savior.
You are my Shepherd.
You are the Son of God.
You are One with the Father.
You are the One on whom I depend and my friend.
