I am sure most of us remember the old green or black chalkboards in school, and still cringe at the thought of the sound made when a nail scrapes across it. Not only that, but I remember how it was never clean. Even with the eraser, there was chalk residue remaining until a special cleaner was used to restore the clean look. Even the dry erase boards are the same. Unless a special cleaner is used, there remains smears and streaks.
It is the same in our lives. Unless we use the awesome cleaning power of the blood of Jesus we will continue to have streaks, smears, and smudges. There is no way, under our own power, to purify ourselves without believing in Jesus and accept the fact that He died on the cross for us. Only then will our sin be wiped away, leaving no trace of residue. Only then will our slate be clean.
