A Sinner

I wish I could say that I am not a sinner, but that would be a lie. I hate my sinful ways because I love my Lord and want to live better to show His glory. However, because I am a sinner, I am so much more thankful to God for His forgiveness.

O Lord,

I am a sinner, but I am comforted.

I am consoled

because of the forgiveness You do not withhold.

You did not scold the woman caught in adultery.

You simply said, “Go, and sin no more,”

though she had the Pharisees in an uproar.

You did not reject the man on the cross.

You said, “Today, you will be with me in paradise,”

though you were the one paying the price.

You did not destroy Nineveh for their wicked ways;

for, with compassion, you lengthened their days.

You did not admonish Jonah when he wished he was dead;

You sent a shade to cover his head.

Then you sent a worm to cut it down;

   And, in love, explained about the town;

of how, with compassion and pity,

You wanted to save that sinful city.

O Lord,

Your forgiveness and love are my comforting hope

when I view my sin through a microscope.

Your mercy and grace are my comfort, warmth, and peace.

as I dwell on my sin that seems to never cease.

Break The Chain

It is possible because of God, and because of God only! He is the One able to break the chains!

In Galatians 5:19-22, we are told what our flesh nation is drawn toward. It is immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, and carousing.

However, in Galations 5:22-23 we are given the Fruit of the Sprit which comes from God. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindnesss, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Does anyone recognize what we are seeing today with all the violence we are watching on television in our cities, towns, and neighborhoods?

Does anyone recognize what we are seeing in the political world today?

Does anyone recognize what we see in our schools?

     Does anyone care?

Let's not make it our way! Let's make it God's way! I implore us all to travel the upper road which is God’s way, using:

         Love

         Joy

         Peace

         Patience

         Kindness

         Goodness

         Faithfulness

         Gentleness

         Self-Control

Wouldn’t we be happier?

Wouldn’t our lives be better?

Wouldn’t our lives be healthier?

Wouldn’t we laugh and be more joyful?

Wouldn’t we feel better when we rest our head at night?

Fast and Pray

A fast, as defined, is a period of voluntarily refraining from eating, and sometimes drinking, for a set amount of time, often for health, religious, or cultural reasons.

People fast for diet reasons. People fast for health reasons, and people fast for drawing near to God.

There are many examples of fasting in Scripture. These people were seeking the Lord and His  guidance.

The following is a review on people who fasted in Scripture in order to seek God and His guidance.

Moses fasted before receiving the 10 commandments. “And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water.” Exodus 34:28a

David fasted. “David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.” 2 Samuel 12:16

Daniel fasted. “And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel 9:3

Before Esther was to go before the King, she feared and she fasted, along with her people. “Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer. Go gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I also and my maidens will fast likewise…” Esther 15-16a

Jehoshaphat called a national fast. “And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.: 2 Chronicles 20:3

Ezra called on the nation to fast. “Then I proclaimed a fast there at the rive of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and our little ones, and for all our substance.” Ezra 8:21

Joel called a fast. “Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assemble…cry unto the Lord.” Joel 1:14

Jesus fasted. “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days, He did not eat nothing; and when they were ended, He afterward hungered.” Luke 4:1-2

Paul fasted. “And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.” Acts 9:9

These examples don’t stop here. Many people throughout history have fasted as they have sought God and His direction, and God has provided many rewarding experiences. As it says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Our nation is separated. We need unity with God. Our government needs God in it. Our schools need God in it. Our homes and families need God in it. Is it time to fast and pray?

My Shape

I know that God shaped me and molded me before I was ever born. I am His creation.

In the Daily Hope Devotional, the author talked about unique ways God shaped us. He used the acrostic SHAPE along with his definitions, as follows

S piritual Gifts are God-empowered abilities given to believers as serving, teaching, encouraging, leading, etc.

H eart refers to desires, hope, interests, ambitions; what I love and care to do; what we to do and what we care about.

A bilities are the natural talents born with-what I am can and am able to do.

P ersonality affects how and where you use your gilts in ways different than others.

E periences teach lessons that help you mature and help minister to others.

I decided to explore my SHAPE based on the above. My SHAPE would look like:

S piritual Gift would be the desire I have to write this blog for God with the hope it will inspire and lead others to Christ.

H eart comes with loving others and being with family having with the desire for the best in their lives.

A bilities are my creativity.

P ersonality comes from my positive attitude and my willingness to share my spiritual thoughts through this blog.

E xperiences comes from my easy-nature dealing with others. I would place my perservance in reading and studying God’s Word in this category. I could never mature spiritually without striving to know God and my Savior.

God shaped me in the beginning, but He also shapes me daily by my reliance upon Him. Without God, I am nothing!

I Just Know!

My salvation happened when I was ten! I knew it was time to acknowledge Him.

Actually, I never remember not attending church, so I don’t remember having this sudden “Jesus Moment!” I just knew! He was in my heart.

I do remember Mother being outside washing clothes in an old washpot when I talked with her about being saved. I do remember walking the aisle and Mother having to motion Dad to step back and let me out of the pew. I do remember the other girl who was saved the same day.

There have, of course, been a few times in life I doubted my salvation because of hearing others speak about a sudden salvation experience. However, I never doubted in the times I was straying in sin because there was a tugging, a guilt, a knowledge that Jesus was clinging to me and pulling me back. When I, knowingly, offend someone, I have a tugging to ask forgiveness from them and from God. I live with sin, so I know the cleansing grace which God provides when I sincerely repent.

I have a yearning to please God. I want it! It is not a burden! I love the joy in my heart when I talk with God. There is a peace even in the hardest of times, and it comes from knowing God and His promises.

If you ask me how I know I have salvation today, I would say:

I Just Know

You may ask, “How do I know?”

I just know that I know that I know.

There’s a joy in my heart.

I gained it at the start.

It’s forever and forever.

It’s sealed within-

Never to be unzipped.

I’m gripped,

Held tight,

Given the light.

I know that I know that I know.

I won’t be dropped.

I won’t be let go.

I’m held stable,

For He is able!

There’s no question mark which lingers.
I’m held tight within His fingers.

I accepted!

God washed me clean,

And He’ll never let me go!

Two Rough-Cut Beams

From my fleshly desires, I often think about what God can do for me in the way of blessings, healing, and so much more, but I also think about what He did for in the the most important of all ways. I think about His awesome love, of how He sent His only Son to die for me. I think about Jesus and how He, of His own free will, took up His Cross and died for me.  I think about how God loves me so much that He does not even require any work from me. He requires only that I believe in Jesus and His death on the cross to be saved. How wonderful is that!

Two Rough-Cut Beams

Upon two beams of rough-cut wood,

I was justified, as soldiers pierced Jesus’ side.

His blood flowed red, as He hung His head.

In death, He arose to take another breath,

And He will return for His sheep and, heaven, I will reap.

Upon two beams of rough-cut wood,

I was sanctified and redeemed; I was cleaned.

No good deeds are demanded;

I am saved, coming, empty-handed.

Jesus died upon two beams of rough-cut wood;

That’s all that needs to be understood.

He promised a Heavenly place by His mercy and grace;

So, no good works will deliver from the grave,

Only belief in God’s Son will save.

He did the work and said, “It is done!”

I need not kneel with a host of good deeds- no none!

I need not strive to earn His favor,

For upon two beams of rough-cut wood,

Jesus became my Savior!

And, I give thanks for the rugged cross on Golgotha hill,

Where Jesus died for me of His own free-will.

The Name of Jesus

Every parent takes time to contemplate what to name their child. This is usually a big deal!

I was reminded in my reading today that neither Mary nor Joseph got to name Jesus. This was God’s Son, so God, Himself, named Jesus. In the first Book of Matthew, God sent an angel to Joseph in a dream saying, “Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife for that which is conceived on her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins.”

Jesus is a special name, meaning Savior. I looked up other names used to refer to Jesus. Christ from the Greek word means anointed one. Messiah from Hebrew means anointed one or chosen one. Immanuel from Hebrew means God with us.

I could describe Jesus from A to Z, among them; Wonderful, Counselor, Lord, Teacher, etc. but my point is that Jesus’s name is special. His name is to be revered, respected, and honored and never used in any other way.

Jesus is my Savior and He was named by God to save me from my sins!

Made Strong Through Christ

I know I have limitations, but I am encouraged by Philippians 4:13 which states, "I can do all things through Christ which stengtheneth me." Knowing my weaknesses, I wrote the following because I rely on my Lord to make me strong and whole.

My Fleshly Being

O Lord,

You created me in your image.

I feel and reason,

But only You can change the season.

I am limited in body,

But You have no limitations.

You rule the nations.

I am confined-

Only You can indwell

Within every human body and cell.

My life is here for a term-

You, O Lord, always was, is now, and forever

Helping me with my endeavor.

I came to be when You molded me,

But You existed before and will always forever be.

I change in thought and time,

But You, O Lord, are constant, unchanging, steadfast-

The One I need first and last.

You created me,

And I become weary, tired, and fearful,

But You are there to make me cheerful.

Lord, I am only flesh-

You are Spirit, the joy of my soul,

And it is You who makes me whole.

You, O Lord, are the world’s ruler and maker;

Me- only a partaker.

Pivotal Point

A pivotal point, as defined, is a crucial moment, event, or idea that significantly influences the outcome of something. It acts as a turning point that determines what will come next.

A few of my fleshly pivotal points have been:

Graduation

Employee

Marriage,

Birth of a child

Divorce

But there has been one pivotal point in my life that rises far above any other in my life, and that is my salvation experience where I recognized that Jesus died for me and that He is my Savior and Son of God.

There will be another fleshly pivotal point in death, but I look forward to yet another pivotal point. There will be one with the Rapture,  where Jesus returns to take his children to be with Him. I will be included!

My prayer is that whoever has not accepted Christ, do it now, before it is too late in death or before the Rapture.  I want you to "Go With Me."

The Little Engine That Could

It is so easy to think a negative thought, be a discourager, a doubter, a pessimist, or even a naysayer. Being like this can easily take the “wind out of someone’s sails” causing a person to lose their motivation and confidence.

These type people might love me, but I WANT to be around those who are up-beat, who think positive thoughts, and give encouragement. Personally, I want to be like the “Little Engine That Could,”and is famous for saying, “I think I can! I think I can! I think I can!”  The Little Engine thought it could, and it did.

However, I have to carry this a bit further and say that what I think I can and what gets done should always be guided by the Lord and accomplished through the Lord’s help!

My go-to scripture usually always comes from the King James Version but I enjoy considering other versions as well. Therefore, I compared the following to give more emphasis toward my point.

King James 29:25 goes like, “The fear of man bringeth a snare but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.”

Consider the MSG version, “The fear of human opinion disables, trusting in God protects you from that.”

Then the GNT version states it like this. “It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe.”

Sharpen The Tools

My husband recently started cleaning up his tools of which he has many either needing sharpened, repaired, or tossed. I have tools that come from God that I need to keep sharpened, as well.

The Word that never gets old. It never changes. It is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. (Psalm 119-105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

I can only sharpen The Word by staying in it!

The Church- God’s group of people who are to encourage and love one another. The people may change, but God always has another in place. (Hebrews 10:25, “Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…”)

I can only sharpen my assembling by attending!

Trials- Hardships bring us closer to God; they strength us.  He is the Guide, the Go-To-One, the Omnificent One who sees, hears, and knows all. (James 1: 2, “Blessed is the man who remains under trial, for when he has stood the test he will received the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. )

I can only sharpen my trials by, without fear, giving them to God- by relying on Him.

Challenges- Challenges sharpen us as we look to God for answers. He is always at our fingertips. As we look to God, we become wiser in our choices.  (Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”)

     My challenges sharpen me.

I am just the clay that God molds with His tools every day. If I can use God’s tools properly, my life is transformed more into what God desires. (Isaiah 64:8 “O Lord, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter, And all of us are the work of Your hand.)

I need to keep God’s tools sharpened while also letting them sharpen me in my reliance upon God.

A Testimony

The Bible is a testimony of God; a revelation about Him and a source of God’s will, guidance, and hope for me.

There are three people I can readily point to who gave a testimony directly to both God and Jesus of who they were to them. These are testimonies not to be ignored.

When Jonah prayed to God, he said, “I knew that You are slow to anger and are filled with loving-kindness, always ready to change Your mind and not punish.” Jonah 4:2

When Peter was asked a question by Jesus, he answered, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  Matthew 16:16

When Thomas saw Jesus after the resurrection He declared to Jesus, “My Lord and my God.” John 20:28

God, Himself spoke from heaven and introduced Jesus, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17

Jesus, Himself, said, “I and my Father are one.” John 10:30

I cannot talk directly, face-to-fact, with God, but I can testify that God is my Lord, Jesus is my Savior, and They are One. I can testify that God is loving, kind, and by my side daily, leading, guiding, and blessing my path.

Set Aside

When I started cooking, I had to learn to separate the egg yolk from the whites, often setting them aside for their own individual purpose. It was important not to forget to use the one set aside for later.

There are some things that God separates and puts aside, as well.

God set aside my Sundays from the other days of the week to give me a rest day. (Genesis 2:3, “Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.”)

God also has set me aside. He set me aside because I am a believer. When I received Christ I was set aside as a “special” child of God.  I am set aside with my own unique purpose and added to the fold of His sheep. God knows me by name, and I am Not forgotten!

More

As I have lived life, I found that I always wanted more, never being content with just a bit. Often this was just a selfish whim on my part, but I have also found that it is not a bad thing to want more. Not if the “more” is within what God has in His plans. I can honestly say, "I want more of what God has in store.”

More

 I tasted

And was not sated.

I wanted more

Of what I’d just had before.

It was like honey on my tongue;

It clung-

I embraced the flavor,

Enjoying it like a refreshing lifesaver.

It satisfied,

Inside and outside.

There was clarity,

Sincerity,

Solidarity.

But there was more of what Christ had to offer.

I wanted, no more, to be a scoffer.

I wanted more of His love and care,

Of all He promised to share.

Hours and days had gone wasted,

But now I have tasted;

Felt His love and His grace,

And there is so much more to embrace

With God living in my space.

I have tasted and want more

Of what God has to outpour.

I Am Awed

The are certain words that express powerful emotions; like astounded, overwhelmed, and amazed, but today I chose to use awed, meaning a feeling of wonderment or reverence.

I Am Awed

Every heartbeat,

My hands and feet,

Every breath until death;

They are a blessing from You, O God,

And I am awed!

Every finger, every toe

Every joint, knee, and elbow,

My brain and the blood within my vein,

You planned, O God,

And I am awed!

You took Adam’s rib and passed it around.

But I wasn’t just a hand-me-down.

You added more for what I’m here for.

With love,

You planned me, drew me, made me,

And listen to every plea.

You had a plan just for me,

O God!

And I am awed!

You formed me with loving kindness,

Always granting forgiveness;

You’ve stayed the course, by my side,

Being my Go-to Guide.

In Your heart-felt presence, O God,

I am awed!

Replacement For Me

There is much to be learned from Isaiah 53 about Jesus’s replacement on the Cross for me.

Isaiah 53:4-6 NLT

“He was despised and rejected—
a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.
We turned our backs on him and looked the other way.
He was despised, and we did not care.
Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins!
But he was pierced for our rebellion,
    crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed.
All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.
We have left God’s paths to follow our own.
Yet the Lord laid on him
    the sins of us all.”

What does Jesus’ replacement mean to me?

R eplacement (Jesus took my place on the Cross)

nded (Jesus death on the Cross ended God’s anger over my sin)

ierced (His body was pierced for me)

L aid (My sins were laid on Jesus at the Cross)

C rushed (He was crushed for my sin)

E nded (The Cross ended condemnation for my sin)

eant (The Cross was my burden to bear but Jesus took it)

E nded (The Cross ended my death penalty)

o Other Way (Jesus made a way for me, an imperfect to go to a perfect place and be with a perfect God)

rust (Jesus is God’s Son and I am to trust in Him, His death, His resurrection, and His love for me)

Spring of Living Water vs Fruit of the Spirit

As I was reading Jeremiah 2:13 which states, “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water,” I thought of the poem I wrote and posted a few days ago about, “The Well That Never Runs Dry.”

I was referring to the Living Water which occurred at the moment of salvation. God, Himself, poured out into me the Holy Spirit who is continually filling me, guiding me, and working with me continually.

Thinking of this further, I also thought about how my Living Water produces fruit and how I am to develop a character which shows I have the Living Water flowing continually.  I immediately connected it to the Fruit of the Spirit; that of, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, patience, and self-control.

I also wish to produce a stream of living water by living the Fruit of the Spirit. Let it flow out of me!

Prayer Example

When it comes to prayer, there is no better example than given in Matthew 6:

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it in in heaven.

Give us (me) this day our (my) daily bread.

And forgive us (me) our (my) debts as we (I) forgive our (my) debtors.

And lead us (me) not into temptation, but deliver us (me) from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen

I also read another prayer with the author unknown to me which I share here to help me start my day.

Dear God, (My Father)

I thank You for giving me a new day to start.

I pray that You watch over me, my family, and everyone in need of Your grace.

Protect us (me) guide us (me), and fill our (my) heart with Your peace.

Forgive me for my weaknesses, and strengthen my faith in You.

Where there is faith, there is love.

Where there is love there is peace.

Where there is peace, there is God.

And where God is, nothing is missing.

Lord,

I place this month (day) in Your hands.

Your plan is always perfect, and Your love never fails.”

The Well That Never Runs Dry

In the midst of August, I am suffering through a dry spell. The garden is gone and my grass is slowly turning brown with no way to give it the amount of water needed. However, I am encouraged knowing that God will send the rain in His time. I am also encouraged by the fact that God provides "A Well That Never Runs Dry."

The Well That Never Dries

Lord,

You are the well which never runs dry,

The light within the twinkle of my eye,

And the joy that fills my soul,

Now, and from days of ole.

Your well that never runs dry

Quenches my appetite,

Takes me to a new height,

And calms my fear

As I walk through every year.

I love to drink of Your Living Water,

The well that never runs dry,

For I know I was created by You, the Potter.

Name It!

If I had to put a name to the following, I might have a problem if I thought in terms of the flesh before my salvation experience. However, as a Christian, I have no problem attaching a name. It would be GOD in all His glory!

Unbelievable

Indescribable

Unattainable

Inexplainable

Unimaginable

Unfathomable

Immeasurable

Unconceivable

I have received God’s grace, felt His love, experienced His miracles, and seen His wonders. They are all of the above. I praise Him and thank Him!

The Truth

One my devotionals today got me to reflecting on the Truth!

In the author’s words, summarized, “Do I believe it, do it, stand for it, spread it. The truth is something we practice, apply, live and obey.”

To help me further, I put it into questions for myself with my answers?

Have I discovered the Truth?   Yes

Have I accepted the Truth?      Yes

Do I believe in the Truth?        Yes

Do I apply the Truth?               I try

Do I practice the Truth?          I try

Do I obey the Truth?               I try

Do I live the Truth?                 I try

Do I stand for the Truth?        I try

Do I spread the Truth?            Sometimes

Do I love the Truth?                Yes

Do I understand the Truth?      No- because of my wicked ways, how can the Truth love me so that He can die for me?

John 14:6, “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life, No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Why? and For?

Two devotionals I read last week presented different ideas; however, I thought they blended together pretty well to form one viewpoint.

I picked up on a verse in one from Isaiah 64:8, “But now, O Lord, You are our (my) Father. We (I) am the clay, and You our (my) Potter; And all of us (I) are the work of Your hand.”

The other devotional talked about different worldviews and why one matters, pointing toward Colossians 1:16, “For everything, absolutely everything, (me) above and below, visible and invisible…everything (me) got started in Him and finds its (my) purpose in Him.”  The author summed it up as:

“You (I) were made by God

and FOR God”

A Shining Star

A Shining Star

I wish not upon a shining star

Up above so far.

I look to the Word, so true.

I do not wish, but pray it through.

It makes no difference who I are,

A dream is not built upon a shining star;

It’s God who sees me through.

He is the One so true!

It’s He who set the star

Up above so far,

But it’s only there to give me light,

Shining up so bright.

I wish not upon its power

For God is my mighty tower.

I wish not upon a shining star

Up above so far.

God’s the One who grants my needs;

He hears and heeds.

I do not wish, but pray it through

To the One, so true.

Trust in the Lord with your Prayers - He Hears!

It is hard to know how or what to pray at times, but God cares whether I know how or not. He just wants me to share my honest feelings with Him, and He will take it from there. Nothing is too small or too big to pray about; My words just need to come from my heart.  God works in small ways, and He works in big ways. God understands! God hears! God listens!

I look to John 14, where Jesus says, “Whatever you ask in my name, that will I do so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything, I will do it.”

At the same time there are other verses which tell me that if I do not receive, it may be because I ask with the wrong intent, or without forgiveness in our heart, or God has determined it is not in my best interest, or even that it is not in God’s timing. I just have to understand that there will be times when I may be disappointed with unanswered prayers. This only teaches me patience, courage, and a continuing trust in the Lord. I just need to keep praying!

I also look at Jeremiah 1:6-9 “But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, I am a youth, because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them…vs 9 “Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.”
