One Day At A Time

A popular song, I love to hear Cristy Lane sing is One Day At A Time. The lyrics go like: 

 

One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from You
Just give me the strength to do everyday
What I have to do
Yesterday's gone, sweet Jesus

And tomorrow may never be mine

Lord, help me today, show me the way

One Day At A Time is also a slogan I used a lot when I was going through a difficult time in my life and it is also what scripture tells us to do. We are to live in the today. Yesterday is gone and Tomorrow may never be.

 

Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” 

 

If I have problems worrying about what I did yesterday or what will happen tomorrow, I am simply to pray.

 

Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.” 

 

If I cannot stop thinking about yesterday or possible problems of tomorrow I can always strive to change my thinking.

 

Philippians 4:8, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”

 

So, I have to tell myself, “Yesterday is gone, it cannot be changed. Tomorrow may never be. Lord, help me plan for good and not evil Today, for it is here right now. Help me live in it. Lord, show me the way One Day At A Time!

Today

 There is no greater blessing God gives me than waking up into the TODAY. It is up to me to make it count. 

Today

 

Yesterday is gone,

And so are the things that I did wrong.

Those I will not let control my days,

Or the trails ahead I choose to blaze. 

Worry will not change the past, 

And nothing lasts.

On the other hand,

As I tread this land,

Tomorrow is a day to think about,

But I cannot know what, from it, will sprout

Worry will not change the future or what lies ahead;

Just plan, pray, and trust instead.

Within my trust, 

I must’nt let today turn to dust. 

Today is what I grip within my hand.

Today is when I skip across the land.

Today opportunities are like the grains of sand.

Today is where my energy must go.

Today is when I sow.

Today, my spotlight does not end until the night.

It is: 

To be happy and gay,

To pray,

To not stray,

To make it worthwhile,

To smile.

To go the extra mile.

Today is mine, 

Taking it seconds and minutes at a time. 

It is up to me, on wings, to mount

And make my today count.

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Knowing that I am forgiven for my yesterdays is comforting. That in itself should help me “let go” and dwell on today. But, instead of dwelling on today, I often find myself worrying about tomorrow. My thoughts take me on a merry-go-round. However, scripture gives me advice about my yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows. 

 

Yesterday

“And we were born only yesterday and know nothing, but our days on earth as but a shadow.” Job 8:9


For yesterday, I am told, "Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven-if there was anything to forgive - I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake." 2 Corinthians 2:10

 

Today

“Be sure you obey all the decrees and laws I am setting before you today.” Deuteronomy 11:32


“…Let us rejoice today and be glad.” Psalm 118:24

 

Tomorrow:

“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself." Matthew 6:35
