Christmas Story

For those who do not believe Christ should be in Christmas, let me just say that the Christmas story and all the traditions we observe are truly built around Jesus and His birth.  In fact, Christmas has always been about manager scenes, caroling, gift giving, angels and bright stars atop trees adorning our homes.   Just where did these ideas originate?  I believe we find them in scripture.

Jesus Christ:  Matthew 1:21 "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins."

Manager scenes:  Luke 2:7  "And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manager, because there was no room for them in the inn."

Christmas Carols: Luke 2: 13-14  "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Angels:  Luke 2:10  "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."

Bright star:  Matthew 2: 1-2  "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."

Gifts:  Matthew 2:11  "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts: gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
