Making the Mark

We are born and we die.

In-between we strive to make our mark in history.

No matter how rich or poor, there is a story.

No matter how hard we work, how much we do, how we run the race,

there’s only one thing that really counts,

and that is to have an encounter with the Lord.

Most of Jesus’s disciples encountered Him at the Sea of Galilee,

and they followed Him.

Peter encountered Him on the Damascus Road, and he followed Him.

These are only a few examples of how simple it is to do.

God does not ask a lot.

Just believe in His Son-

Do you believe?

Have you accepted?

The Road To Travel

I never know what road I will travel for the day. All I know is that if I should head down the wrong road, I want God to turn me around and get me onto the right one- the one He desires.

     When Paul traveled the Damascus Road, he obviously was going the wrong way. God redirected him.

     Speaking of Paul, he was an Apostle who developed a love for the gospel of Christ. His life story is interestingly told in Scripture:

Paul was initially against Christians and wanted them all killed. Paul was blinded and converted on the Damascus Road. Paul was imprisoned. Paul experienced troubles even after his conversion. They were: shipwreck, imprisonment, beatings without number, in danger of death, labor and hardships, sleepless nights, hunger and thirst. However, Paul stated: “I have learned, in whatever state I am, therewith to be content.” He persevered in the gospel.

     Out of Paul’s experiences, one told often is his conversion on the Damascus Road. I did my best to compose it as follows:

The Damascus Road

What was there about the Damascus Road,

A worn trail, where a miracle was bestowed?

It was a road of dust

Where walked a man Christians could not trust-

A soldier in armor whom they feared,

Until God appeared

And asked, “Why Saul?

Why do you persecute me?”

Saul looked about, but he could not see.

The Damascus Road was touched by the hand of God-

On it had been a heart, wicked and flawed.

Now, on his knees, was a man for God –

A man once evil-minded,

Sitting on the Damascus Road, blinded

To be become God-minded.

Here sat a man with his heart being changed,

So, he would no longer be, God estranged.

 On the Damascus Road

A bright light glowed,

A miracle occurred,

And God was heard.

The Damascus Road

A few days ago I wrote about how God has given me so many second chances by His forgiveness, and I am so grateful. I truly regret the waste I have made of God’s kindness.

     One person in the Bible that comes to mind and who did not waste God’s kindness was Paul. After his conversion experience on the Damascus Road, he changed his mission in life.  In fact, I wrote about Paul a few years back which I have not shared on my blog, but it was shared by a friend in his book, From Tarsus to Rome-A Historical Novel of the Apostle Paul, which is currently published and found on Amazon. Just click the link below to find it.

The Damascus Road

What was there about the Damascus road:

A worn and dusty trail where a miracle was bestowed?

The Damascus road-

Herein lies a story with a twist;

A road Saul couldn’t resist.

Amid the ruts and the dust,

Rode a man Christians could not trust.

This vengeful, Saul, breathed murderous threats;

He wanted to imprison, without regrets.

This was a man with ambition; a man on a mission.

Yet, the Damascus road gave him a different vision.

The Damascus road, dusty and dreary-

A road Saul chose to ride, though he was tired and weary.

This soldier in armor, whom Christians feared,

Fell to his knees when a mighty light appeared.

He heard a voice speak ever so unique,

“Why Saul?

Why do you persecute me?”

Saul looked about, but he could not see.

The Damascus road, touched by the hand of God,

Changed a heart wicked and flawed.

No longer did Saul want to kill or spread ill-will.

This was a man on a mission; a man of ambition;

A man setting people on fire for the Messiah.

It was Jesus’ name he wanted to proclaim!

Here was a man once blinded,

Yet healed and truth revealed;

A man whose heart was changed;

No longer, Jesus estranged.

What was there about the Damascus road

Where a bright light glowed?

The Damascus road, one well-traveled;

Out of it,

A miracle occurred; a mystery unraveled!

The Damascus Road

There are all kinds of roads we can travel in life, but there is one road that leads us to Jesus.  Saul traveled a road of his own which, in the end, led him to Jesus.

                The Damascus Road

What was there about the Damascus road:
A worn and dusty trail where a miracle was bestowed?
The Damascus road-Herein lies a story with a twist;
A road Saul couldn’t resist.
Amid the ruts and the dust,
Rode a man Christians could not trust.
This vengeful, Saul, breathed murderous threats;
He wanted to kill and mangle, without regrets.
He was on a mission; this man with ambition.
Saul held evil and hatred in his heart,
Yet, the Damascus road was about to give him a brand new start.
The Damascus road, a road well-traveled;
One where a miracle occurred; a mystery unraveled!

What was there about the Damascus road;
A worn and dusty trail where a miracle was bestowed?
The Damascus road, dusty and dreary-
A road Saul chose to ride, though he was tired and weary.
This soldier in armor, whom Christians feared,
Fell to his knees when a mighty light appeared.
He heard a voice ring out with a mighty shout,
“Why Saul? Why do you persecute me?”
Saul looked about, but he could not see.
The Damascus road, a road well-traveled;
One where a miracle occurred; a mystery unraveled!

What was there about the Damascus road;
A worn and dusty trail where a miracle was bestowed?
The Damascus road, touched by the hand of God,
Changed a heart wicked and flawed.
Saul, once confused and blinded,
Now filled with the Spirit became God-minded.
No longer did he want to kill or spread ill-will.
This was a man on a mission; a man of ambition;
A man setting people on fire for the Messiah.
It was Jesus’ name he wanted to proclaim!
The Damascus road, a road well-traveled;
One where a miracle occurred; a mystery unraveled!
