The Blood of the Lamb

     My Bible study pointed out a few thoughts about the blood of the Lamb:

1. It told of how God covered the nakedness of Adam and Eve by pointing to the shedding of blood, and how the Savior would die for the sin of the world. 

2. It gave the example of how the children of Israel selected a perfect lamb, without blemish, to place on top of their door frames. 

3. It gave the example of Christ being born in a stable, "a perfect place for the birth of a lamb". 

     After reading all this I went back to the first one and tried to find what animal God used as clothing for Adam and Eve. Could it have been a lamb? 

     I read several scripture versions. I only found, "animal skins, "coats of skins", "leather clothing", and "tunics of skin." One commentary even said it could have been the bark of a tree that God used. I finally deducted it did not matter what animal God used. The significance was that God covered Adam and Eve's sin, just as Jesus, the Lamb, covered my sin with His blood.  

     From that I wrote the following: 

The Blood of The Lamb

 

Down through the ages,

In the Old Testament pages,

From the beginning of sinning,

There has been the significance of the blood of the Lamb.

Adam and Eve were given an animal skin

To cover their sin.

The Israelites used the blood of a perfect lamb

Above their door jamb-

Thus, saving their firstborn,

With only the Egyptians left to mourn.

Into the New Testament

And the Book never out-of-print,

The Lamb without blemish, without spot,

Came to fulfill God’s saving plot.

The Lamb without blemish, born in a stable,

Came to save, ‘cause He was able.

I cling

To the blood that washes clean.

There’s no other way to be saved

Other than the path God paved. 

I’m saved by the blood of the Lamb,

Gifted by the great, I Am!

The Gift of Christmas

There are many presents under my tree, but I am sure some will not really be wanted or bring joy to the recipient. In my defense, I had to get something!  Some of the gifts were purchased in haste and will end up really be a waste of my cash or an increase of my charges on credit. But, as most would say, it is the thought that counts.  When I think about it, it is really the Good News that I should give. This is one that will be treasured and kept forever. 

The Gift of Christmas 

 

This Christmas, I expect a gift

Paid for with credit or cash;

Simply bought in hurry and dash

And soon to be tossed in the trash.

Whatever!

It may be worn a time or two

When it is new,

Or it may get broken in a bit;

It may be an original or counterfeit;

Certainly not really made to last.

The gift will be tossed as in the past.

So?

What I want is the gift of Good News;

That’s what I choose.

I want One of value and worth;

The Good News brought to earth.

I want One that will not fade;

One not man-made.

I want One not paid for with silver or gold;

One I can forever hold.

I want the spotless Lamb

Who saved my soul.

Do Prayers Expire?

     When I woke this morning and started planning the day, I decided my task for the day would be to toss out those expired salad dressings, relishes, and other food items that had accumulated in the shelves of my refrigerator door.  Then I would tackle the medicine cabinet.  This seemed like a good plan, but first I needed to make a trip to the gym for a good workout. 
    On the return trip home, I spotted a sign on the church parking lot which read,  "Prayers Do Not Expire."   Since expiration  dates were on my mind, I was a little awed by this simple reminder on prayer life and expiration dates.
     You might ask, "If prayers don't expire, why are they not always answered?"  All I can say is that God already has a plan for us, but he still wants us to pray.  "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."  (Jeremiah 29:11-13)   We are also told to "Pray without ceasing." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

      In researching prayer further, I also came across a few in Revelations.  I interpret these verses to mean that our prayers are on record forever; they do not expire.   Read these verses and you decide.  

      Revelation 5:8, "And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.

      Revelation 8:3 "Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne."

     Revelation 8:4, "The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand."

     When I see Jesus, face to face, my desire is that my prayers be filled with praise for Him, that they be filled with thankfulness, that they not be just about me, my wishes and desires, but about others as well, and that they be filled with God's desires for all mankind.   
    

 

The Lamb

     Many times in the Old Testament we read of the lamb.  The lamb that was sacrificed upon the altar was to be without spot and without blemish.  Then when we get to the New Testament, we learn that Jesus is The Lamb.  He was the sacrifice for our sins, and He was without spot and without blemish.  He chose to die for our sins. 

     THE LAMB

Behold the Lamb!

I am amazed to stand before Him,
and not worthy to touch even His garment's hem.

Worthy is the Lamb,

who walked among men.
He healed the sick and the lame-
Jesus is His name.

The Light of the World is the Lamb!
He is the heart-felt presence in times of sorrow;
the One who comforts through each tomorrow. 

Praise God for the Lamb,
who intercedes for all our sin,
and delivers us out of the darkness from where we’re been.

The Blood of the Lamb
was shed for you and me-
He gave it freely, never wavering or trying to flee.

Watch for the Lamb!

He will appear in the twinkling of an eye.
He is the One you should not deny.

Beware the wrath of the Lamb!
He will come on a great white horse
with a mighty force. 

Behold! I am saved by the Blood of the Lamb.

Hallelujah!
